Styling jeans & heels: A forgotten styling classic

I remember being a kid and watching 90s tv shows thinking to myself “that’s how I want to dress when I’m an adult”. I was usually referring to the outfits on that consisted of camis, jeans and oversized blazers. I think it’s safe to say that as an adult, I pretty much stuck to my word on here.

Over the past couple of years, 90s fashion trends and styles have shown up on our feeds and on our style inspo boards for pretty consistently. I feel as though every time there is a new trend that appears, 90s core still takes up space in the fashion trends-sphere and rightfully so. I’m sure lots of us still regard the 90’s as being not so long ago and with that, would not even consider putting the words ‘classic styling’ and ‘90s fashion’ in the same sentence at all. I can see why in so many ways but one thing that many of us seem to forget, is that the 90s really did shape the way for modern classic styling.

One example  that the 90s had done the is by modernising the way that jeans and heels were paired together. A true modern classic pairing that I believe will start to show up more in the world of styling this year. There are many variations of this form of styling which can be done very well if the looks are well thought about. There is also a way to take todays modern classic styling and past classic styling and unifying them to make for more personalised looks that feel more true to your own sense of style.

I have styled up a couple of style boards to give you some inspiration on how to really make a classic, elegant and feminine outfit when pairing jeans with heels. I have chosen to focus on two styles of heels as these really are the styles that I stick to when it comes to any outfit really. One being Kitten heels which are an easy throw on style that can elevate any look for any occasion. The other is heeled boots which I absolutely love to wear as they are a great transitional shoe that just adds something a little bit extra to an outfit.

When pairing kitten heels with simple yet classic outfits and colours, I think about how I can add a little edge and an element of fun to these looks. The best way to do this is by going for a shoe that doesn’t necessarily fit in the classic styling rule book. Go for colour, texture and print. This adds personality to the outfit.

I never really venture away from purchasing a pari of black ankle boots. I feel like they are a classic that can take me from day to night, work to after work drinks with no extra effort needed. When looking for a black ankle boot that will give you this amount of versatility, go for comfort and style over anything else.
