I have been brainstorming my 2024 fashion goals for the past couple of months now, so finally getting to share some of them feels like the creative offload that I have been waiting for. My fashion goals for the year consist of ideas around my style philosophies, what I want to introduce into my wardrobe and staying true to what inspires me. One example of my own personal style philosophy is that with my everyday looks, the key to putting together an outfit that feels good to me is: Less is more. Keeping things simple and classic is what makes me feel most like myself. By referring back to my fashion moodboards which I create on Pinterest, also helps me when I am looking for inspiration.
Now on to my goals. By sharing these I hope that I can help inspire you to also think about what makes you you when it comes to fashion, purchasing and putting together outfits for yourself this year too.

Back to black
My teens, a time when all black outfits were a clear display of my dedication to the scene kid and emo lifestyle. My early 20s, a time when it only made sense to continue the all black outfits but also try to express my love for the colour in the most feminine way as possible. And now, in my early 30s I’m wanting to go back to black. My reason for this is simply because I just love the colour and wearing an all black outfit always feels so chic, timeless and effortless to me.
This year, I want to lean into my love of expressing myself in all black outfits even more again. I want to focus on texture, quality and layers as I feel that it is so easy to elevate an all black outfit just by layering up intentionally and focusing on the small details when it comes to texture and design.
More refined, more intentional dressing
Sometimes it feels a little difficult to know where to start when it comes to dressing in a more refined way. In the past, I’d always steer towards shopping at a specific brand and not really thinking about how I would even build an outfit with the items that I had purchased from said brand, throwing over a blazer and thinking that the quality alone would do the job. The older I get and the more I learn about my own personal style and how to build looks, the more I understand that there is way more to it than just that. Yes, a beautiful selection of well made wardrobe staples will take your wardrobe to new heights but how exactly can I make that a refined, timesless, stylish and most importantly intentional outfit?
That takes me to the other part of this goal which is being more intentional. What I mean when I say this is that I want to be able to wake up in the morning and just give my everyday outfits a little more thought. I want to be able to focus more on how an outfit makes me feel and how it will make me present myself that day rather than just opt for what is ‘easy’, a trap that we all fall into so much of the time and which leaves us feeling less like ourselves when we go for this option.
Upgrade my wardrobe staples
Talking of easy options and totally contrary to what I just said (lol), I do still think it is important to have easy wardrobe staples that just match the energy of your style and lifestyle. I remember being highly influenced by the athletic wear girlies and wanting to find all the perfect colour sets of all the athletic wear to have as my wardrobe staples and everyday easy options. I think you can probably guess by now that that was not really me and I had no business spending so much time looking for ‘cute gym sets’ in all the colours of the rainbow. Of course, this is so many peoples vibe and it is such a cute look, but for me it just didn’t scream ‘hi world, this is who I am’. My wardrobe staples in the past have always been wide leg trousers, an oversized shirt and whatever shoes fit the vibe of the day. Could be heeled boots or could be Birkenstock Bostons, but whatever it is, it has to feel like me.
Because of my impressionable period I didn’t focus on wardrobe staples that work in my wardrobe, and now have a bunch of gym sets that I only wear to the gym, when I’m running late to baby group or while I am doing a home workout. This year I want to build a staple wardrobe that consists of items that can be easily rotated and reinvented with other pieces in my wardrobe.
Stick to the moodboard
I live by moodboards. Pinterest ones, Instagram ones and I even have homemade mood and vision boards stuck on my wall behind my desk! Pinterest is my home for inspiration in all areas of my life. This year, I want to refer back to my style inspiration boards a lot more especially when I need a spark of inspiration or when I feel a little stuck on how to put an outfit together for a specific occasion.
Hyper femininity
Last year, pink took over everybody’s wardrobe with the influence of the Barbie movie. I don’t think there was a single highstreet shop or designer who didn’t include a bit of pink in their collections and that influence really took over the world. Towards the end of 2023, we saw more lace, more bows, and something called coquette core hit our timelines. Although I’m not really one for trends, hyper femininity has been a classic form of expression for me for as long as I can remember. I love that it is becoming more of a mainstream way of dressing and that there are so many of us who love to wear bows, lace, and traditionally feminine colours.
This year, I really want to lean more into my own idea of hyper femininity by exploring colour combinations, by styling pieces from new brands and designers and also by leaning heavily into where I find style inspiration. I plan to do this by wearing bows in creative ways (especially as I have just cut all my hair off which means I literally can’t even wear a bow in my hair at the moment), style up more skirts and dresses as part of my everyday wear and also accessories with items that make me feel feminine.
